Huge departmental store and lots to see, shop and buy!

The huge departmental store is located just next to the bustling Shinjuku train station, covering 8 storeys (including the basements and one rooftop, which I will explain later).

It seems that it caters to everyone in the family, selling all kinds of merchandise including fashion, bags, shoes, cosmestics, toys etc. Escalators and lifts are easily accessible, just like the washrooms.

The lower basements are mainly supermarket and food stalls, where you will be spoiled for choices. And this is one of the most crowded places in the departmental store at any time of the day!

In addition, several medium to high end restaurants are located on the 8th storey, mainly Japanese and Western cuisines. This is "quieter" than at the basements and prices are generally steeper.

And if you go up another floor to the rooftop, there is a plant nursery outdoor and an indoor pets stores, selling all kinds of accessories relating to pets, dogs, cats, fishes etc. And I especially like this "greenery" as it allows shoppers to take a break from the "noise and crowd" from the lower floors and indulge in some peace and greenery. There is also a cafe here which you can help yourself with some fingerfood.

If you are into shopping and staying near the train station, you will not miss this huge departmental store for sure! Make sure you have sufficient time allocated here (and cash too) for shopping!

Dangerous for my credit card

Couples

I wish we had a full day to explore this store. We were waiting for our train and decided to eat in the food hall on the upper floors. As we were taking the escalators up each floor, I wanted to jump off to look at something cute. The top two floors have different options to eat that are nicer than what’s available on the train floor. But be prepared to fight your way through the department by the escalator and elevator. We had lunch at a sushi restaurant and the fish was fresh and reasonably priced. Be prepared that they speak little English and will point a lot on a menu. Take your passport to get tax off your purchases. And Japanese sizes are smaller than US and UK sizes. Some stores do not carry higher than a size 6/28 in women. But go look at the amazing selection of purses!

A really shop till you drop experience

The departmental store is just next to the train station, despite me having some trouble locating it at first since the Shinjuku station is damn big! However, once locating it - it's a very good place to shop, I didn't visit other floors since I came specially in search for the Ishiya Shinjuku situated in the basement food bazaar department.

Upon entering the place, it's so massive that I don't know where to begin. All I remembered was buy, buy and more buying. Free sampling are provided for patrons to get a taste of their varieties of pastries/cakes available before making a decision which one to get for their friends/relatives or for themselves even.

I even found myself at a loss on how to get back to JR Shinjuku station towards the end of it.

Shop Til You Drop Then Get Up And Shop Some More!

Couples

Department stores in Japan are enormous and amazing. They are invariably so big that you’ll need to pick up a Floor Guide to help you navigate!

You can probably find whatever you need here. Clothes, cosmetics, jewelry, home furnishings, kitchen gadgets, etc … I picked up a gorgeous Yukata robe as a souvenir and my husband found some nice origami paper to take home.

And don’t forget to check out the variety of food available in the basement levels!

EVERYTHING IS GREAT

Couples

While Keio Department Store Shinjuku sells a wide range of items - cosmetics, clothing and accessories, kids' toys, homeware and traditional Japanese goods, the best place to visit is the Gourmet Food Hall in the basement.

The Food Hall covers the entire floor basement and is a feast for the eye. Walking around, I saw everything from bento boxed meals, deli counters, pizza, salad, fruits and vegetables to wine, boba drinks, coffee beans, bread and meat-filled steamed buns, sandwiches, fresh meat and seafood, and International cuisine.

Japanese confectionery and French pastries are especially beautifully decorated. I tried some of both and they were really tasty.

The variety of hand crafted chocolates and candy are sensational and the imagination is unlimited.

Here, I can get anything for breakfast, lunch, dinner, party, or special celebration.

Popular souvenir is a pack of dried bonito shavings and dried kelp that is used for making Japanese soup stock as well as green tea flavored sweets.

If I need anything to eat or to give away, I find that EVERYTHING IS GREAT... at the Food Hall of Keio Department Store

a good place to have my shoes repaired and shopping

Couples

It is so convenient for us to go to Keio Department store and have my shoes resoled once a year there because I can't have it done where I live now. The shoes shop resoled is located on the 1st floor and it is very good, and inexpensive- just hat to wait about 10-15 minutes. I am glade to have my shoes resoled especially my good and expensive shoes. Then, we went around to shop but it seemed to be that the first floor now has been packed up with many cosmetics brands.
We like to look at kitchen wares, tea cups, clothes and have our food on the top floor. It is at the west exit of Shinjuku station, easy to find and you will not miss it.

Your normal department store

Couples

This is just your normal department store in Shinjuku without the classy brands. What it did have was a large food court but we didn’t eat much at food courts on this trip. My wife didn’t even spend hours here as she normally does at department stores so I as quite happy about that.

great department store in Shinjuku

Family

This department store locates on top of Shinjuku station, and it is worth a visit. It has various floor to sell different things, from clothing, stationary, and food. We tried the food in the food court at lower level, it is ok if you just want to grad something to eat quick. The clothing sections (men, ladies and kids) have different brands to choose from, with various price range to suit different budget. Don't forget to go to the top floor where they sell food from other parts of Japan too.
